Sweat gland suction is a component of sweat gland removal at the Yuveo Clinic Düsseldorf.
Our team of experienced plastic surgeons will recommend suction of the sweat glands if the problem is not general sweating of the whole body due to general medical causes, but rather increased underarm perspiration(hyperhidrosis axillaris). This occurs more frequently in families and can be effectively alleviated by sweat gland suction.

Procedure for sweat gland suction
Anesthesia, anesthesia, duration of surgery
In most cases, sweat gland removal is performed in our clinic in Düsseldorf under sedation with local anesthesia. In principle, however, the operation can also be performed under local anesthesia.
As the tumescent solution, which contains the anesthetic and saline, has to work for a while, the procedure takes around 60 to 90 minutes.
Operation – Liposuction
As already mentioned, sweat gland suction is usually part of suction curettage. The operation begins in the same way as liposuction.
First, your plastic surgeon injects a so-called tumescent solution, which contains the anesthetic, among other things. This should be left to work for approx. 20 to 30 minutes so that the sweat gland cells swell and adequate pain relief is achieved.
We make an approx. 5 mm incision in the axillary fold, through which the cannulas for liposuction are inserted. The procedure is similar to liposuction, except that the tissue obtained contains plenty of sweat gland components.
Deep vessels and nerves are spared during the operation.
Frequently asked questions about sweat gland suction
Can new sweat formation remain after sweat gland removal?
The sweat glands are very resistant. Even after aggressive sweat gland removal, they can regenerate and result in renewed underarm perspiration. The aim of the treatment can hardly be to completely dry out the armpits. Rather, a significant reduction in underarm perspiration is realistic.
If the sweat gland suction was not carried out vigorously enough and the underarm perspiration is still significantly increased, the operation can be repeated at the Yuveo Clinic Düsseldorf without further ado.
Can there be a loss of skin sensation on the inside of the upper arm?
Although sweat gland aspiration is less aggressive than tissue scraping, it can also irritate skin nerves. A nerve that runs from the chest through the armpit into the upper arm is usually affected.
This can mean a loss of sensation on the inside of the upper arm. It usually disappears within days or a few weeks.
How is the follow-up treatment carried out?
Overall, the healing process is faster with sweat gland aspiration, as there is no need to scrape out the tissue.
After the sweat glands have been removed, the small incisions are loosely sutured so that any water that collects after the operation can escape.
A pressure bandage reduces swelling, bruising and the accumulation of wound fluid.
For 7 days after sweat gland removal, you should avoid movement in the shoulder area and spreading your arms to ensure better wound healing. You can then start with careful movement exercises.
