What is a V-Y flap plastic?
V-Y plasty is a form of flap plasty that is used to cover defects by moving the skin, e.g. in tumor operations or burns.
Explanation of the V-Y plastic
The following example schematically shows a tumor that is covered using this technique after rectangular (green rectangle) excision.
Examples
This surgical technique is used in plastic surgery in the following context:
- Defect coverage during basal cell carcinoma surgery and for other malignant and benign tumors of the skin.
- Covering of decubital ulcers in the area of the sacrum, etc.
- These plastics were also used in the old technique of cutting out sweat glands as part of hyperhidrosis. Today, the domain of sweat gland removal is lipocurettage.
- In hand surgery, this flap plasty is often used to cover defects in partial finger amputations.
