Anatomy that is important in sulcus ulnaris syndrome:
On the ulnar side, the ulnar nerve runs through a channel that is formed by bone in the depth and on the sides. Sulcus means groove – which is why hand surgeons also speak of ulnar groove syndrome.
In sulcus ulnaris syndrome, the nerve is constricted in this groove !
The roof of the olecranon is covered by tight connective tissue and partly by muscles. An impact in this region causes an impressive electrifying pain that extends into the little finger.
The ulnar nerve runs under two bellies of the wrist flexor muscles in the area of the ulnar canal remote from the body.
It supplies the little finger and the ring finger on the little finger side with skin sensation and is responsible for a large part of the small hand muscles.
Our hand surgery team in Düsseldorf explains the anatomy of the further course of the ulnar nerve in the wrist area in the chapter on Loge de Guyon syndrome.
