Lower eyelid wrinkles are wrinkles caused by the activity of the eye ring muscle (a facial muscle). Squinting the eyes when looking at the sun also encourages the formation of lower eyelid wrinkles. Skin ageing also leads to excess skin and increased formation of these wrinkles.
Prevention of lower eyelid wrinkles
Conservative measures can also be used to counteract the formation of lower eyelid wrinkles to a certain extent. The most important points are briefly explained here:
- Use of eye wrinkle creams (daily).
- Allergy sufferers often experience swelling of the eyelids, which promotes the formation of excess skin.
So!: Avoid allergens, take decongestant measures. - Avoiding strong sunlight: a, The sun damages the skin and leads to premature skin ageing and thus the formation of lower eyelid wrinkles. b, In the sun, you reflexively squint your eyes to avoid being dazzled and thus promote the formation of wrinkles.
So!: Apply sunscreen, seek shade and wear sunglasses.
Lower eyelid wrinkle treatment with Btx
Btx treatment with Bttx can be considered for the treatment of lower eyelid wrinkles if they are less pronounced. However, the treatment must be very cautious. Only a small dose may be injected into the lower eyelid in order to reduce the action of the eye ring muscle. If too much is injected, there is a risk of the lower eyelid drooping (ectropion), which can lead to conjunctival irritation and tearing. The effect of Btx treatment lasts for approx. 3-5 months.
Lower eyelid correction
In the case of more pronounced lower eyelid wrinkles with significant excess skin, a satisfactory result can only be achieved with lower eyelid correction. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with twilight sleep and smoothes the lower eyelid wrinkles by removing the excess skin and tightening the lower part of the eye ring muscle.
