Is conservative treatment possible for Dupuytren’s disease?

Many attempts have already been made to get Dupuytren’s disease under control by means of conservative treatment, unfortunately without any real success.

• Pharmacodynamic exheresis – Only short-term partial successes were achieved with an injection of a mixture of hyaluronidase and trypsin (Hueston 1974, Lamb 1981).
• Colleague nose treatment – The relapse rate after 2 years is 25 % (Mc Carthy 1992). Enzymatic tendon ruptures and nerve damage can be caused.
• Allopurinol – improvement in joint extension by approx. 8° according to Murrel (1987). A greater improvement was only observed in individual cases.

To date, there is no scientific evidence for the effectiveness of the following conservative treatment measures: corticoid injections, cryotherapy, laser therapy, shock wave therapy.
