Swelling and bruising
In the first few days/weeks, swelling and slight bruising (also on the sides) of the skin are normal after chin correction.
Skin sensitivity disorders and numbness after chin correction
It is not unusual for the skin to feel worse immediately after the procedure. However, this usually only lasts for a short time. In rare cases, the skin sensation in this part of the face can also remain impaired in the long term, particularly if a corresponding cutaneous nerve is injured.
Scarring disorders
So-called hypertrophic (excess, bulging) scars are rare but, as with all operations, can also occur as part of a chin correction. If such changes occur, we at the Yuveo Clinic in Düsseldorf can counteract them with scar ointments and, if necessary, anti-inflammatory injections.
If we make the incisions from the inside during chin surgery, for example during chin reduction, there is hardly any risk of scarring.
Injury to neighboring structures
With good knowledge and an experienced plastic surgeon, injuries to deeper structures are unlikely, but not impossible. At risk is a cutaneous nerve branch whose injury can cause the numbness described above.
Infections
Due to the good blood circulation in the head and neck area, infections are rare. However, if signs of infection occur postoperatively, our Yuveo team will react immediately. Prophylactic antibiotics can also be considered by our Düsseldorf team, particularly in the case of augmentation using chin implants .
Slipping of the chin implant
To prevent the chin implant from slipping after the operation, we recommend that you take care to keep the chin area temporarily fixed after consultation with us.
