What is otapostasis?
Otapostasis is the technical term for protruding ears. Together with macrotia, Darwin’s hump, cup ear and others, these belong to the malformations of the outer ear. The transitions to the non-protruding ear are fluid. Nevertheless, there are values that describe the degree of protrusion.
Correction of otapostasis
Ear correction for otapostasis is often performed in childhood, as teasing already begins at this age and the psychological stress on the little ones is great. In principle, the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, possibly with twilight sleep.
