With needling, which is based on the effect of the finest needle pricks in the skin, our plastic surgeons in Düsseldorf can stimulate the skin’s repair processes.
As a result, new connective tissue is formed and the treated skin areas are tightened.
The most common demand is for the face. However, the treatment can also be used for mild sagging of the skin in various areas of the body.
The most common treatment areas here include the thighs, upper arms, knees and abdomen.
However, dermaneedling can never replace a tightening operation such as an upper arm or thigh lift if the skin is very loose.
If you make an appointment for an individual consultation and physical examination at our consultation in Düsseldorf, we can explain to you how we can carry out the treatment for you.

Effect of medical needling on the tissue
Although the principle of needling is very simple, it is a relatively new method.
Depending on the length of the needles, a large number of needlesticks are used to injure, but not destroy, different layers of skin.
Needle pricks stimulate the formation of new connective tissue.
This stimulus stimulates repair processes. The minor bleeding causes blood platelets (thrombocytes) to accumulate, which release their repair substances. Among other things, special cells (fibroblasts) are stimulated to form collagen.
This collagen strengthens the connective tissue and therefore the skin. The collagen also has a tightening effect due to its astringent effect.
Because of the collagen-forming effect, the treatment is also called collagen induction therapy.
Advantages
As healthy skin sections remain between the stitches during treatment, healing is faster than with ablative peelings or lasers. With the latter, long scabbing and even longer reddening of the skin must often be expected.
With this treatment, these healing phases are greatly shortened. It is also possible to opt for a gentler treatment by having our plastic surgeons use shorter needles. However, this can result in a reduced effect of the treatment.
Body areas
This procedure can be performed on various areas of the body. For example, on the face, décolleté and neck. The thighs and upper arms are also areas where skin tightening can be achieved.
The treatment of smaller areas such as small scars or mouth wrinkles and eyelid treatment are also possible areas of application.
Frequently asked questions about needling
What is worth knowing about medical needling on the face?
Not a scooter, but electric
We do not usually work with a roller on the face because it is not possible to change the depth of the stitches. However, it is advantageous to be able to adjust the depth of the stitches. The skin has a different thickness and sensitivity in different areas of the face. A greater depth can generally be used in the cheek area, while the dermis can be reached with a very shallow depth when needling the eyelid. It must also be taken into account that skin quality can vary greatly from person to person.
An older man with sun-tanned skin requires a much more aggressive approach than the delicate skin of a middle-aged woman.
For these reasons, we prefer to use an electric needling device, which works like a tattoo machine. Here we can adjust the depth of the needling during the treatment.
Facial needling is intended to achieve the following:
- It leads to a tightening effect and an improvement in the skin structure and smoothing of the skin through collagen formation.
- For mild to moderate acne scars, these can be reduced with a stamp. If the scar craters are too deep, dermaneedling cannot be expected to bring about any serious change.
- A reduction in creases, which can often be seen in sun worshippers and smokers.
- A reduction in pigmentation can usually also be recognized.
Anesthesia or narcosis
In principle, facial treatment can be carried out with an anesthetic cream. If this is not sufficient, sedation should be considered. In some cases, anesthesia may also be recommended.
What do we achieve with eyelid needling in Düsseldorf?
We also use a needling device for this small area. 4 to 5 sessions are necessary to achieve the desired effect.
Tighten slightly sagging eyelids
As the skin on the eyelid tends to be thinner, we use a shallower puncture depth, which is still sufficient to stimulate the deeper skin layer. Slight eyelid sagging can be treated in this way.
However, if the eyelid is severely sagging with significant excess skin, effective treatment will only be possible with an eyelid lift.
Side effects
In contrast to other areas of the face, as the skin here is quite thin, bruising can occur which takes around 10-14 days to disappear completely. After a few days, however, you can apply make-up over them.
What can be achieved with dermaneedling on the thigh?
Dermaneedling is also suitable for treating the thighs (upper arms, bottom, stomach, stretch marks).
As the skin on the thigh tends to be thicker, we have to work with a deep needle penetration depth in order to achieve the desired effect of skin tightening and skin structure improvement.
Anesthesia
Local anesthesia, twilight sleep or short anesthesia must therefore be used on the thigh. This applies not only to needling treatment on the thigh, but to all treatments on larger areas with long needles.
How often does the thigh need to be treated?
3-4 sessions at intervals of a few weeks should be taken into account in order to achieve a good effect.
When does the effect occur?
The results of the procedure on the thighs are only visible many weeks after the treatment has been completed.
What are the benefits of medical needling?
Positive influence on pigmentation.
- Fast legal capacity: After approx. 2-4 days
- Short treatment time of approx. 30 minutes for the face.
- Scarring is not to be expected due to the minimal invasiveness.
- No crust formation is to be expected with adequate aftercare.
- Depending on the depth of the needles, the treatment can be carried out with an anesthetic cream so that anesthesia is not necessary.
- Very simple follow-up treatment, which the patient can usually carry out independently.
How is the follow-up treatment carried out?
Depending on the depth of the puncture, you should expect redness for approx. 2-3 days after the procedure. Initially there will be a feeling of tension and possibly a slight burning sensation, similar to a mild sunburn.
During this post-treatment phase, it is particularly important to nourish the skin with a vitamin-rich cream.
Cooling the skin is very pleasant for the first 2 days.
You will be socially acceptable again on the 3rd to 4th day.
Therefore, the treatment can easily be carried out on Friday if you go back to work on Monday.
How much does needling cost?
On the one hand, the size of the areas to be treated determines the costs, and on the other, the body region itself.
Furthermore, the costs depend on the materials used by our plastic surgeons in Düsseldorf.
Several treatments
It should also be noted that an impressive result cannot usually be expected with a single treatment.
Depending on the region and the penetration depth of the needles, 3 to even 6 sessions are necessary to achieve the desired effect. Therefore, you should also expect to pay 3 to 6 times the cost.
Furthermore, cosmetic needling must be distinguished from medical needling. The latter may only be used by doctors.
Smaller and larger areas
In Germany, you have to calculate 350-600 euros per session for a treatment of the face. Larger areas of the body, such as the thighs or treatment of the upper arms, can be even more expensive: 500-900 euros per session.
The treatment of the smallest regions such as the eyelids is much more favorable.
Costs of anesthesia
Treatment for smaller stitches can usually be carried out with an anesthetic cream. Most plastic surgeons do not charge any additional costs for this.
Twilight sleep (sedation) or anesthesia is often necessary when needling large areas with deep puncture depths. In this case, the cost of sedation is around 280-400 euros and anesthesia 470-600 euros.
Further costs
… can be supplemented by care products and vitamin-rich creams, which are used in aftercare, accelerate healing and significantly improve the result.
