In lip augmentation using the nasal incision technique, also known as an indirect lip lift, a strip of skin just a few millimetres wide is removed.
In this way, the distance between the nasal entrance and the edge of the upper lip is shortened, the lip curves forward and becomes larger due to the increased amount of lip red.
The middle part of the upper lip in particular can be shaped well. The fine scar is barely visible after healing. The result is permanent. As plastic surgeons, we also speak of a bullhorn excision because the removed piece of skin looks like the horns of a bull.
Lip correction through incision on the red border of the lips

We usually use this method to treat very narrow upper lips in patients who are looking for a long-lasting result.
A narrow strip of normal skin is removed in the area of the lip red border and the lip red is sutured over it. This increases the amount of red in the lip.

Is it possible to enlarge the lips with autologous tissue?

The superficial skin layer (epidermis) is removed from this graft so that sebaceous glands cannot produce secretions. This would lead to permanent irritation.

The harvested autologous tissue is then implanted into the lip via several small incisions. The incisions are practically invisible after the lip augmentation.

Is it possible to enlarge lips with autologous fat?
It is also possible to enlarge a lip with the help of autologous fat grafting. The fatty tissue is obtained in a similar way to liposuction, processed and injected into the lip using fine syringes.
Plastic surgeons assume that approx. 40-60% of this autologous fat survives and produces a durable result.
