What is hip fat?
In layman’s terms, the fat pads on the hips are referred to as love handles. These areas, also known as ‘love handles’, are typical problem areas for men, but also frequently occur in women. They are quickly perceived as a nuisance, even in quite slim patients, which increases the motivation for liposuction.
More fat is stored on the hips than in other areas of the body. This also occurs in young, slim men and women. Diets or sporting activities often have little effect on this area.
Read the following paragraphs to find out what you can do to prevent surgical liposuction.
What can be done about these fat deposits without suction?
Before you have the fat sucked out of your hips, it makes sense to try it out without an operation.
For people who are overweight, the magic formula for losing weight in general is required:
Weight = energy intake : physical activity
Eating less and exercising more therefore means less weight. This is also the basic principle of all diets.
However, as this often does not work as easily as one would expect when looking at the formula, liposuction is required when all measures have failed.
A smaller amount of work for the plastic surgeon and patient is also to be expected with a smaller shape. The proportions achieved with liposuction are retained. What has been removed does not return.
The procedure can usually be performed under local anesthesia with twilight sleep if it is only a correction of the love handles.
Exercises to combat love handles
If you take the calorie reduction described above to heart and also burn off the unloved fat deposits through exercise, liposuction is often not necessary.
Burning fat works with endurance training. In people who jog or cycle regularly and intensively, the fat on the hips is at least less pronounced, but usually non-existent.
You can also strengthen your abdominal muscles and burn fat at the same time. A large number of machines are available for abdominal training, some of which are significantly more expensive than others.
However, the good old sit-ups are still the best training method today. However, you have to do sit-ups frequently and regularly to see a reduction in your beer belly.
The fat pads on the hips respond particularly well when the lateral abdominal muscles are trained. This is achieved with twisted sit-ups, where you touch the opposite knee with one elbow.
Lateral hip flexions that are made more difficult with weights (e.g. dumbbells) are particularly effective against this excess fat.
What do I need to know about suctioning?
Liposuction of hip fat is a standard procedure in plastic surgery. As the hips are quite sensitive to pain, a deep twilight sleep or anesthesia is usually recommended to make liposuction more comfortable for the patient and the surgeon.
Postoperatively, a well-fitting corset should ensure sufficient compression to prevent irregularities caused by residual bruising.
