Advantages of combined eyelid correction
A healing phase
Eyelid correction of the upper and lower eyelid in one session has the advantage that you as a patient only have to go through one healing phase. This means only one episode of swelling, pain, surgical anxiety, sacrifice of vacation time, etc.
The healing phase is usually only slightly longer due to the slightly more pronounced swelling. However, the eyelids harmonize much better after the combined eyelid correction!
If one is operated on, the other is more noticeable
If the patient has both bags under the eyes and drooping eyelids preoperatively, the bags under the eyes may be more noticeable after an isolated upper eyelid correction, for example. In contrast, the drooping eyelids may be more noticeable after an isolated lower eyelid correction.
Combined or offset?
Patients with combined eyelid drooping often decide to undergo further correction of the non-operated eyelids after a short time following isolated eyelid correction.
Less effort, lower costs
The combined operation also means significantly less work for the surgeon and anesthetist. This is why there is often a price reduction.
Eyelid lift on the upper eyelid
The principle of eyelid lifting on the upper eyelid is to remove excess skin, eye ring muscles and fatty tissue. The suture is placed in the eyelid crease. This means that the delicate scar that forms later is barely visible. For more details, read the article on upper eyelid lifting.
The special features of eyelid correction on the lower eyelid
Eyelid correction on the lower eyelid is somewhat more complex and surgically more demanding than that of the upper eyelid. Only a small amount of skin and eye ring muscle may be removed in order to prevent the lower eyelid from drooping (ectropion). Furthermore, the lower eyelid is usually stabilized as part of the eyelid lift by suspending the ring muscle on the bony side of the eye socket. For detailed information, please read the chapter on lower eyelid lifting.
Frequently asked questions about joint eyelid surgery
What is the procedure for an eyelid lift on the upper and lower eyelid?
The combined upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty generally does not require inpatient monitoring. However, this may be necessary for people with pre-existing conditions.
In principle, the operation can be performed under local anesthesia(local anesthesia). However, sedation(twilight sleep) is usually recommended for eyelid lifting on the upper and lower eyelid in one session. General anesthesia may also be indicated in some cases.
If the operations are performed together, the operation will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the findings and the amount of work involved.
What needs to be considered after eyelid correction?
After joint eyelid surgery, we cover the suture with fine skin-coloured plasters, which also have a stabilizing effect. This stabilization is particularly important on the lower eyelid. These plasters also reduce swelling.
After about a week, the plasters are removed and the stitches removed.
The following points should be noted after eyelid correction:
- Cooling the eyelids is particularly important in the first few days.
- Sleeping with your upper body elevated reduces swelling.
- Eye ointments reduce the risk of conjunctival irritation.
- After the suture material has been removed, the scars are not yet completely healed. The eye should therefore not be rubbed until approx. 2 weeks after the eyelid lift.
What costs can you expect for combined eyelid correction?
The prices for eyelid correction can vary greatly: The extent of the eyelid correction, the length of stay in the clinic (if necessary) and the prices for twilight sedation or anesthesia are relevant. Finally, the fee charged by your plastic surgeon is also decisive.
Eyelid correction on the upper eyelid:
The cost of an upper eyelid blepharoplasty depends on the extent of the operation. Twilight sleep, also known as sedation, is recommended. This generates additional costs.
Eyelid lift on the lower eyelid:
An eyelid lift on the lower eyelid is more expensive than on the upper eyelid due to the increased surgical effort involved. Twilight sleep is recommended for the procedure.
Eyelid correction on the upper and lower eyelid
For eyelid correction on the upper and lower eyelid in one session, you can expect a discount from most colleagues.
