Our Düsseldorf team of plastic surgeons will of course inform you about this.

Surgical wisdom says that there are only two kinds of surgeons who don’t know any complications: Some don’t operate and others are liars.

The most important complications that can occur during drooping eyelid surgery are briefly described below:

Swelling and bruising

In the first few days and weeks, swelling and slight bruising (also on the sides) of the skin are normal. The bruising of the skin can lead to spectacle-like blue discoloration (spectacle hematoma), which is nothing unusual. With isolated eyelid lifting of the upper eyelids, there is often no bruising at all.

Skin sensitivity disorders as a complication after drooping eyelid surgery

A deterioration in the feeling of the skin is normal on the upper eyelid between the suture and the edge of the eyelid. Here the skin feels numb after the operation. This generally normalizes after a few weeks to months as the small cutaneous nerves grow back.

Scarring disorders

So-called hypertrophic (bulging, bulging scars) or benign growths are extremely rare but, as with all operations, can also occur during drooping eyelid surgery. We will clarify in advance whether you have an inherited scarring disorder.

Injury to neighboring structures

With good knowledge and an experienced plastic and aesthetic surgeon, injuries to important structures are very unlikely, but not impossible.

Infections after a tightening of the eyelid

Due to the good blood circulation in the head and neck area, infections are extremely rare. However, if such symptoms occur, we react immediately with eye ointments containing antibiotics.

Conjunctivitis

This is very rare with the corresponding individual operations. We can counteract these complications by using various eye ointments after drooping eyelid surgery!

Eyelid closure disorders after drooping eyelid surgery

Experience has shown that too little excess skin is removed from the upper eyelid rather than too much tissue reduction, which would result in a lack of eyelid closure.

If the usual standards are adhered to during the eyelid lift, a disruption is very unlikely.

Complications can occur in individual cases during drooping eyelid surgery.
