Occipital implants are ideal for filling the volume of a severely flattened occiput. This results in significant aesthetic improvements to the contour of the back of the head.
Women often have the advantage of being able to cleverly conceal a flattened back of the head with their hair. However, the situation is quite different for men. Short hairstyles make the shape of the back of the head stand out clearly.
If you would like to have corrections made to the back of your head, please contact our team at the Yuveo Clinic for Plastic Aesthetic Surgery in Düsseldorf. We will be happy to advise you!

Occipital implants: Special features of the operation
Occipital implants are custom-made and give new volume to the flattened back of the head.

Occipital correction with occipital implants
If there are no contraindications to the operation, the implant has been prepared and the operation has been planned in detail by us, you will come to the clinic one day before the operation.
The back of the head correction is performed in our Yuveo Clinic the following day, performed by our plastic surgeons and accompanied by our anesthesia team, which monitors the general anesthesia.
During the 2 to 3 hour operation, the implant is placed directly on the bone and covered with the periosteum and scalp.
The wound is stapled and the staples remain in place for about 2 to 3 weeks, which contributes to better hemostasis and healing.
You will spend one day as an inpatient at our clinic.
Aftercare includes cooling, head bandaging and removal of the staples. We also ask you to come to us for certain check-ups agreed with you.
Occipital implants: Further details
Cause of flattened back of the head
Asymmetrical growth and malformations are not uncommon at the back of the head.
The positional flattening of the back of the head often occurs in infancy. Plastic surgeons also refer to this as a skull deformity or plagiocephalus.
To prevent such changes in the shape of the head, care should be taken to ensure that the baby does not lie on one side.
Custom-made implants
Implants for the back of the head are planned and manufactured individually, taking your personal wishes into account.
We design the implant on a 3D model of your head after thorough imaging and clinical diagnostics.
We create a mold template that serves as the basis for the fabrication of the PEEK implant.
Occipital implant = PEEK implant
Occipital implants made of PEEK (medical plastic) are easy to handle, can be flexibly adapted and can be shaped very well.
Advantages of these implants
Sustainably beautiful result
They can be used to make very attractive aesthetic corrections in the long term.
After expert insertion and optimal positioning, the occipital implants can remain in the body for a lifetime.
The special plastic is very resilient and stable.
No slipping
If the occipital implants are ingrown under the periosteum, they can practically not slip out of place.
Aftercare after the procedure
After the occipital surgery, you will stay in our Yuveo Clinic for one day.
We will apply a post-operative dressing to reduce the swelling.
By consistently cooling the surgical site and taking it easy physically, you contribute to the optimal healing process.
The effects of the surgical procedure should have completely subsided after about six weeks.
Possible complications
As with any surgical procedure, post-operative bleeding, inflammation and wound healing disorders can occur.
Wound fluid is produced, but naturally disappears after a short time. We rarely have to puncture these fluid accumulations.
We will explain this to you in advance during the consultation.
