Performing the butt lift
Basically, we distinguish between two surgical procedures. The technique with an incision above the buttocks and the incision below the buttocks.
Buttock lift with incision above the buttocks
This buttock lift is the standard technique that we also use in Düsseldorf.
We remove fatty tissue and skin just above the buttocks at the transition to the lumbar region. This technique is ideal if the excess skin is largely localized here after significant weight loss.
The resulting scar lies slightly below the waistline and is easy to hide even in a bikini.
We remove the excess skin and fatty tissue using the incision described above. The incision is made until the muscles are visible.
Finally, we suture the wound in layers, using the suture to hold the layers firmly in place.
If only the superficial layer of skin is removed during a buttock lift, we can use the dermis to achieve a certain volume effect. The layers of skin are stitched together in a special shape.
This form of butt lift can help people with excessive excess skin in particular to achieve additional volume.

Frequently asked questions about the butt lift
What are the reasons for a butt lift?
A surgical buttock lift (buttock pexy) is particularly interesting for patients who have undergone significant weight loss. The improved body sensation is then often overshadowed by excess sagging skin.
If there is additional sagging of the abdominal skin and abdominal wall, we can combine a buttock lift with a tummy tuck by making an incision around the torso at our clinic in Düsseldorf.
Flat buttocks are the result of too weak gluteal muscles, which cannot always be trained as desired due to the patient’s constitution. In such cases, buttock implants can be inserted as part of a plastic surgery procedure in Düsseldorf to enlarge the buttocks. If the buttocks are slightly sagging, this also leads to tightening, so that this technique can also be used to increase volume (see below).
A slight tightening effect can also be expected with the Brazilian butt lift, in which the patient’s own fat is used to increase volume.
How does a butt lift work at our clinic in Düsseldorf?
As with all medium and major operations at the Yuveo Clinic in Düsseldorf, a routine examination to clarify any secondary conditions is necessary before a buttock lift is performed.
Blood-thinning medication must not be taken for 14 days before the procedure.
General anesthesia is preferable. The operation, which takes 1-2 hours depending on the technique, should be combined with a short hospital stay (1-2 days).
After the operation, similar to after a thigh lift, it is very important to take it easy and restrict movement. Bending in the hip joint in particular increases the tension on the suture and scars and can therefore lead to a suboptimal scar appearance.
What is the aftercare for a butt lift?
The aftercare for a butt lift at our clinic in Düsseldorf depends, among other things, on the extent of the operation, i.e. the length of the incisions and the size of the wound areas.
Associations:
Dressings with antibiotic-containing or antiseptic ointments (i.e. ointments that kill bacteria) are applied after the buttock lift due to the proximity to the genital and anal region. These dressings are changed regularly at our clinic in Düsseldorf during the initial wound healing phase. We also moisten the sutures with disinfectant spray when changing the dressing.
Compression treatment after the butt lift:
Compression treatment for approx. 6 weeks after a buttock lift is extremely important. Tailored compression pants are worn.
Protection and restriction of movement:
All movements that could lead to instability of the suture and the scar must be restricted after the buttock lift, especially in the first 2-3 weeks. Movements in the hip joint and especially bending, but also turning the legs are unfavorable for the healing process. Even normal sitting is a great disadvantage due to the increased tension on the suture. The lying position should be preferred, especially in the first few days after a butt operation. Any form of shearing forces must be prevented in the operation area.
Threads:
The skin sutures are left in place for a few weeks after the procedure. However, this depends largely on our chosen surgical technique and can vary. The deep sutures dissolve by themselves.
Swelling and bruising:
In the first few days and weeks, swelling and slight bruising (also on the sides) of the skin are normal. This situation should be improved by the compression garment.
Deafness:
Numbness of the skin in the operation area is normal for most tightening operations and subsides after a few weeks. In rare cases, however, the numbness may persist for longer after the butt lift.
