What is otoplasty or otopexy?
Otoplasty refers to all shaping operations of the ear. This includes reconstructive corrective ear surgery. These are performed in the case of injuries to the ear, malformations and as part of tumor operations. The aim of this reconstructive otoplasty is to ensure that the ear looks as natural as possible. One of the most demanding otoplasties is ear reconstruction using rib cartilage in the case of anotia (absence of the outer ear).
Otopexy
Otopexy is an otoplasty procedure to correct protruding ears. This form of ear correction can be performed conventionally with incisions of different sizes behind or in front of the ear. However, it is also possible to perform otoplasty in a minimally invasive way. Read the article on ear correction with the suture method.
In general, many different methods have been described in the literature for otopexy (the most common form of otoplasty). A selection of the most important techniques can be found in the article Ear correction methods.
