Nose surgery / nose operation

Nose surgery : Nose surgery

  • Aesthetic rhinoplasty is a nose operation that requires a great deal of experience. The nose is a complicated structure made up of various cartilages and bones that can be connected to each other in very different ways. The soft tissue mantle and the quantity and quality of the skin play just as important a role as the internal anatomy – especially when it comes to nasal breathing. If nasal obstruction is present, the reasons for this should be sought and aesthetic correction should be combined with surgery to improve nasal breathing. The causes are manifold. Chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa, nasal conchae that are too large or nasal conchae that protrude far into the nasal septum and thus constrict the nasal cavity are very common. A curvature of the nasal septum often occurs after an injury or from birth. This can be corrected as part of a nasal septum operation. Other possible causes must be clarified.
  • Profile correction: The profile includes not only the nose, but also the lip and especially the chin. In profile correction, a nose correction is usually performed together with a chin augmentation. The combination of both operations has a massive impact on the aesthetics of the profile. Chin corrections are not yet as popular in Germany as they are in the USA, although it makes just as much sense to correct a nose from an aesthetic point of view as it does to correct an undersized chin.
  • Can the nostrils also be reduced in size? Yes, nostril correction is an operation that reduces the size of the nostrils. It is usually performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty. However, there are also frequent requests for nostril correction in isolation. In particular, people with African or Asian roots with wide nostrils are interested in this type of correction.

Cosmetic nose surgery

Even relatively minor deformities on the nose, such as a nasal hump or a drooping nasal tip, can cause some people to feel emotionally restricted and feel the desire to have this ‘blemish’ in the center of the face corrected with the help of a cosmetic nose operation. It is not only the quality of the surgical correction that is important for an attractive end result, but also the appropriate preparation and, in particular, the aftercare. Bruising, excessive blowing, sneezing or frequent touching can have a negative effect on a nose job afterwards.

Before the operation

As strange as it may sound, you should take care not to catch a cold before the operation. Do not operate on a runny nose. Not only is there an increased risk of infection in the area of the fresh wounds. The mucous membranes are also swollen, which can make dissection very difficult.

It is advisable to clean the nostrils well with Q-tips before the nose job. However, you should not proceed so aggressively that the mucous membrane is damaged.

A reduction in post-operative swelling after a nose operation can be minimized with decongestant medication, which can be taken before the operation. But be careful, many of these drugs lead to a slight thinning of the blood. Ask your doctor which medication he or she can recommend.

No blood-thinning medication or thinning substances may be taken before the procedure.

When it comes to rhinoplasty, the main focus is on the aesthetics of the nose. However, the medical aspect should also always play a role and be taken into account. It is therefore important to consider the quality and quantity of nasal breathing in addition to assessing the aesthetic landmarks. What use is the most beautiful nose if it can no longer fulfill its important function of breathing and smelling?
