Cosmetic rhinoplasty is a standard operation at Plastic Surgery Düsseldorf. Our plastic surgeons will inform you in detail about complications and their warning signs in relation to a nose operation so that they can be recognized in good time and treated adequately.
The likelihood of complications also depends on the extent of the deformity present before the operation. Problems are practically impossible with a rhinoplasty using hyaluronic acid without surgery.
However, undesirable consequences cannot be ruled out with 100% certainty in the case of nose tip correction, nasal hump removal and complete nose reduction.
Below we describe the most important complications that can occur during rhinoplasty:
Swelling
After cosmetic nose surgery, there may be severe swelling in the upper and lower eyelids, cheeks and the center of the forehead. However, this also depends on the severity of the operation at our clinic in Düsseldorf. Decongestant measures are helpful to minimize swelling: cooling, elevation of the upper body during sleep and appropriate medication.
Bruising
The swelling after rhinoplasty described above is often accompanied by bloodshot skin. An actual bruise under the subcutis is the exception. However, surgery on the nasal septum can result in bruising under the mucous membrane. We relieve this by making a small incision in order to avoid any resulting obstruction to nasal breathing.
Bleeding
This can usually be avoided by careful hemostasis and final compression. If more severe bleeding occurs in the nasal cavity, the vessels are cauterized using an electric current and the nasal cavity is then generously tamponaded.
Skin sensitivity disorders
… After cosmetic rhinoplasty:
A deterioration in the feeling of the skin is typical with standard rhinoplasty. As our Yuveo team has to detach the skin of the bridge of the nose from the bone in order to correct it, even the smallest skin nerves are severed. As a result, the bridge of the nose is initially numb. It takes months for the skin sensation to return.
Scarring disorders
… After rhinoplasty:
So-called hypertrophic (bulging) scars or benign growths are rather unusual in the nose area.
Injury
… neighboring structures ( very rare):
- Injury to the olfactory nerve can occur during nasal surgery where deep tissue exposure is necessary.
- Chiseling of the maxillary sinus/frontal sinus
Infections
Infections are extremely rare after rhinoplasty in Düsseldorf.
Tearing open the wound / suture
During open rhinoplasty, we take great care to protect the suture on the nasal bridge. Even a small bump can tear the fine sutures. This also applies to the invisible cartilage sutures inside the nose.
Cosmetically unsatisfactory result of the nose operation
Before rhinoplasty, our plastic surgeons must understand our patients’ wishes and assess the feasibility of the procedure. Turning an extremely elongated nose into a petite snub nose is a practically impossible undertaking. On the whole, cosmetic nose surgery requires more corrections than the average cosmetic surgery.
