Fillers for wrinkles and the face are popular materials for tissue relining and tissue augmentation.
The aim is to rejuvenate the appearance and/or optimize the proportions of the face or body.
The hyaluronic acid
It belongs to the glycosaminoglycans and is an important component of the basic substance (also known as cement substance) of the body, which is found in the intercellular spaces (extracellular matrix).
Hyaluronic acid for wrinkle injections or lip injections is manufactured in the laboratory and produced by bacteria. It is sterile and has a longer shelf life than non-cross-linked molecules due to its cross-linking.
Filler for the face
Fillers for wrinkles and the face are also often used for facial sculpting. For example, our plastic surgeons in Düsseldorf can shape the cheeks and emphasize the chin if it is understated.
Hyaluronic acid preparations are used here, which have a firmer consistency as they are highly cross-linked at the molecular level.
Macrolane is a highly cross-linked form of hyaluronic acid that can be used for body contouring. It can be used to correct the buttocks, calves and the like. It has not been approved for breast augmentation without surgery for several years now.
There were unanswered questions regarding the early detection of breast cancer that could not be answered with definitive certainty.
Lip augmentation: Hyaluronic acid is still the most commonly used filler for the lips. It is possible to contour the lips without significantly changing the size, i.e. the volume.
However, we can also enlarge the lips. If you are not satisfied with the result, it can be reversed, which is not possible with other materials.
Filler for wrinkles and the face: other methods
It should also be mentioned that there are a number of other fillers, such as hyrdoxyapatite-based fillers for wrinkles and the face or the still very young aquafilling.
In principle, autologous fat injections can also be considered a filling material and therefore a filler. However, this does not use a foreign material, but the patient’s own fat, which is processed and injected elsewhere in the same session.
A limited filler effect can be described for the thread lifting method. Although the main effect is to shape or ‘suspend’ the tissue of the face using threads, there is also a slight filling effect.
On the one hand, the threads are usually made of degradable material, which stimulates collagen formation and also gives a small volume itself, and on the other hand, the facial tissue has a filling effect through repositioning.
