Diagnosis of gynecomastia

The diagnosis of gynecomastia should include a hormone analysis and a liver and thyroid function test by laboratory examination (blood test).

Especially in the case of unilateral gynecomastia at an advanced age, the rare but highly aggressive breast cancer (mammary carcinoma) in men should also be considered. Breast cancer in men is usually highly aggressive. Ultrasound examinations and mammography are therefore recommended.
