In plastic surgery, an application for cost coverage must often be submitted.
Plastic surgery often treats deformities and illnesses that are fluid in nature. In these cases, it makes sense to clarify the question of cost coverage with the health insurance company before an operation and to prepare a corresponding application .
If this is then approved in writing by the health insurance company, negative surprises are almost impossible.
How do I get such an application?
Example Mrs. Muster: She has reduced her weight by 60 kg within 3 years (from 130 kg to 70 kg) with subsequent skin sagging and skin fat apron on her stomach.
Mrs. Muster had high blood lipid levels, joint pain and spinal complaints. She was advised by her GP to lose weight, which she eventually followed.
She went to a plastic surgery clinic for advice on the possibility of removing the enormous fatty skin apron.
Do I have to submit an application for cost coverage? Yes, the plastic surgeon writes this application.
This should describe the patient’s medical history and the findings that have been made. After weight loss, the health insurance company often also requires proof that the patient is able to maintain the new weight (usually approx. 2 years).
The patient is now applying to the health insurance company to have the costs covered.
After a certain period of time, a commitment is made or the patient is invited to an examination by an expert from the health insurance company’s medical service. The latter will then decide whether to approve the costs.
Further diagnostic reports can be added to the application for assumption of costs.
Mrs. Muster’s blood lipid levels, joint and spinal pain improved after losing weight. As a result, she hardly ever went to the orthopaedist.
But she was now suffering from recurring macerations and fungal infections in the fold under the skin-fat apron on her stomach and therefore received regular dermatological treatment.
The problem also led to a reactive depressive disorder, for which Ms. Muster received psychological treatment.
Therefore, in addition to the application for cost coverage from the plastic surgeon, she also received reports from the orthopaedist, dermatologist and psychologist.
After consulting the expert from the health insurance company’s medical service, it did not take long for her application to be approved so that Ms. Muster could be operated on.
