Intimate surgery, in particular the removal of the clitoral hood, is a relatively new branch of plastic surgery. However, a number of intimate surgeries have now become established.
Labia reduction and vaginal tightening are no longer foreign concepts for most people.
The desire for clitoral hood reduction can be purely aesthetic in nature. Some women notice a clear excess of this skin, which they find unattractive.
However, the reduced sensitivity of the clitoris is very often the reason for the desire to free it from the foreskin. If all the tricks of stimulation and psychotherapy fail here, then intimate surgery can be considered.
After the operation, the clitoris is more easily stimulated during intercourse, which intensifies the sensation. However, it should not be forgotten that this is an operation and surgical procedures can (although rarely) be associated with complications, which we will of course inform you about.
How can the clitoral hood be removed?
The aim of the operation is to reduce the clitoral hood (in the sense of a male circumcision) rather than to remove it completely. Various techniques can be used here.
The operation is most frequently performed in conjunction with labia reduction.
The clitoral hood is tightened by removing excess skin on both sides. This lifts the membrane and exposes the clitoris.
Nerve damage is virtually impossible as only skin on the surface is removed and the clitoris itself remains untouched. The nerves are located deep down anyway.
In another method, the clitoral hood is removed in a wedge shape directly above the clitoral glans and finely sutured. There is also a method in which a large hood-shaped skin covering is cut away.
The method chosen by the plastic surgeon depends on the findings. If the clitoral hood is fused to the clitoris by adhesions or scarring, the first tightening method will not help as the hood cannot slide upwards. In this case, the correction must be performed directly.
As the wounds are not large and the operation is performed on the surface, the procedure can in principle be performed under local anesthesia.
However, due to the painful nature of the anesthesia and the psychologically sensitive localization, we recommend at least a twilight sleep (sedation) or anesthesia.
Only under anesthesia will you certainly not notice the clitoral hood reduction. The outpatient operation takes about 40 minutes.
What needs to be considered after clitoral hood reduction?
Depending on the anesthesia, you will remain in our clinic in Düsseldorf for approx. 30 minutes to 2 hours (with anesthesia) after the clitoral hood reduction.
You should take it easy, especially in the first few days, so that the fine suture can heal stably. As the stitches dissolve by themselves, they do not need to be removed. The stitches will have dissolved after 3-4 weeks at the latest.
You should not wear clothing that is tight around the pubic area. Depending on the findings and the extent of the intimate surgery, you should refrain from sport for 4-6 weeks.
