The manufacturer’s name Btx muscle relaxer, which is commonly used in relation to wrinkle injections, is used by laypersons as a synonym for the neurotoxin Bttx A, which is capable of paralyzing muscles.
This product is therefore ideal for treating mimic wrinkles.
The aim is to deactivate only certain facial muscles in order to keep facial expressions looking natural.

Blood thinners
Blood-thinning medication should be discontinued if there is no reason not to, otherwise bruising can occur which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve.
Nature of the skin
The injection sites must be thoroughly disinfected before treatment. In particular, make-up should be generously removed. In the case of blemished skin, active inflammatory processes such as acne, allergic eczema or herpes, it is unavoidable to postpone treatment with Btx muscle relaxer.
Btx dosage
The Btx dose required for the respective region for wrinkle injections varies greatly from person to person. A large, strong man with well-developed mimic muscles often requires three times the dose. But even within a weight class, the variance is not negligible. Therefore, when treatment is given for the first time, it should be started with a low or normal dose.
Control
After two weeks, a check-up after the initial treatment certainly makes sense. If necessary, a small dose can then be re-injected.
Note after the procedure
Following the injection, cooling can quickly reduce the swelling and redness, which is usually minimal.
The treated areas should not be massaged directly after the treatment, otherwise the neurotoxin can reach areas that should not be paralyzed.
Frequently asked questions about Btx. treatment
How does the Bttx A work?
The injection points can vary greatly depending on the facial expressions and wrinkles.
Btx muscle relaxer spreads with an approximate diameter of 1 cm around the injection site. Injection distances of less than 1 cm are therefore not advisable for wrinkle injections. For the same reason, the deep, rather painful injection into the muscles or periosteum is no longer common. Bruising is therefore less common.
Effects of Btx treatment
After wrinkle treatment with Btx, the first effects are visible after approx. 1 to 3 days. The maximum effect is usually reached after 2 weeks.
The effect lasts for 4 to 7 months. After about 3 months, however, the facial muscles begin to become more active. In most cases, however, the skin is not yet wrinkled at this point, so that immediate re-injections are not necessary.
Can wrinkle treatment result in rigid facial expressions?
The effect on the mimic muscles is now well known.
Only certain muscle groups are blocked, which does not result in the dreaded mask face that was often seen in the early days of the Btx era.
However, if Bttx is injected in large quantities into areas that are important for natural facial expressions, these appear reserved or, in worse cases, rigid.
What can Btx. do in the eyebrow area?
The weakening of the eye ring muscle under the eyebrow changes the muscle balance. The forehead muscles gain relative strength and pull the eyebrow upwards.
This makes the eye appear more open, which is why the injection point is called an ‘eye opener’.
However, the effect is only discreetly visible and cannot replace a surgical eyebrow lift for very deep-set eyebrows.
Does Bttx A play a role as a muscle relaxant in the calf area?
Btx can also be used to reduce the size of the calves by blocking the calf muscle (gastrocnemius muscle).
With regular use, the treatment leads to a shrinkage of the muscle and thus of the calf circumference.
However, this treatment is only promising for muscular calf thickening. Liposuction is the method of choice for bulky calves caused by fatty tissue
Is a habituation effect possible with Bttx?
In some neurological diseases (torticollis, spasms, …), Btx muscle relaxant is injected in gigantic quantities. When used in this way, it has actually been observed that the body can produce antibodies against Bttx A – in up to 4% of cases.
However, a significantly smaller amount is injected for wrinkle treatment. Nevertheless, there are occasional observations of reduced effectiveness.
However, there are also known cases in which fewer units of Bttx A are required after repeated treatments to achieve the usual effect.
Can the treatment be combined with other techniques?
A combination often makes sense and can significantly optimize the refreshing effect.
Bttx is often combined with hyaluronic acid injections. However, the treatment can also be combined with minimally invasive thread lifting, needling or plastic surgery operations at the same time.
