What is a rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty consists of the word stems:

• rhino from the Greek rhis, rhinos = nose
• plastikos (Greek) = shaping

Rhinoplasty (= rhinoplasty) is understood to mean shaping nose surgery, i.e. nose correction in the narrower sense. This can be performed for aesthetic reasons, so that it is referred to as aesthetic rhinoplasty. However, it can also mean nasal reconstruction in the case of injuries to the nose or tumor surgery. This is then called reconstructive rhinoplasty. It does not include surgery on the turbinates or paranasal sinuses.
