Swelling and bruising
As a complication of an upper eyelid lift, swelling and slight bruising (also on the sides) of the skin are normal.
In many cases, however, there is no bruising with blue discoloration on the eyelids.
Skin sensitivity disorders after an upper eyelid lift
A deterioration in skin sensation (sensitivity) is considered normal on the upper eyelid between the suture and the edge of the eyelid. Here the skin feels numb postoperatively. This generally normalizes after a few weeks to months as the small cutaneous nerves grow back.
Scarring disorders
Bulging scars or benign growths are rare after an upper eyelid lift. Before the operation, we will ask you about any hereditary factors that could indicate a problem with scarring.
Injury to neighboring structures
With good knowledge and an experienced plastic surgeon, injuries to important structures are very unlikely, but ultimately not impossible.
Infections after the upper eyelid lift
Due to the good blood circulation in the head and neck area, infections are extremely rare. However, if signs of infection become visible postoperatively, we at Yuveo Düsseldorf respond by promptly administering eye ointments containing antibiotics to prevent the worst from happening
Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis can be counteracted by using eye ointments! However, conjunctivitis is very rare with an upper eyelid lift. It occurs more frequently in combination with a lower eyelid lift.
Eyelid closure disorders
Experience has shown that too little excess skin is removed from the upper eyelid rather than too much tissue reduction, which would result in a lack of eyelid closure.
If the surgical standards are adhered to during the eyelid lift, a disruption is very unlikely.
