Even though liposuction is a standard operation in plastic surgery, it can still be associated with complications. It is important to avoid these if possible, or at least to recognize them in good time. This is the only way we at Yuveo Düsseldorf can initiate suitable countermeasures.
Special complications of liposuction
Sensory discomfort is normal in the first few weeks and usually disappears or improves. In rare cases, however, they may remain.
We can correct or reduce dents and asymmetries in a corrective procedure, which can usually be performed under twilight sedation.
If the skin condition is poor, there is a lot of excess skin or liposuction has not been carried out in the superficial fat layer, the skin may wrinkle or fold. If the findings are clear, a skin tightening surgery can provide a remedy, but this means scars.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction can rarely cause minor or major burns.
Wound effusions (= seromas) are more common with more aggressive ultrasound-assisted liposuction. The smaller ones are broken down by the body in a similar way to bruises. The larger ones are sometimes worth puncturing.
What general complications should be avoided?
In addition to the specific complications, there are also a number of general complications that can occur during liposuction.
- Bleeding and bruising
- Thrombosis and embolism
- Infections
- Scarring disorders, hypertrophic scars
- Injury to neighboring structures
