What types of breast malformation are there?
There are different types of breast malformation that can occur in combination with each other. The appearance can therefore be very variable.
- Amastia is a malformation of the breast in which the breast is completely missing. It can also occur on one side. A genetic defect is assumed to be the cause.
- Breasts that are too small are referred to as micromastia.
- Macromastia is a condition in which the breasts are too large.
- The term gigantomastia is chosen in exceptional cases of extreme macromastia. The distance between the collarbone and nipples can be over 50 cm.
- Breast asymmetry
- Tubular breast, tuberous breast: This is a tube-like deformation of the breasts.
- Polymastia refers to multiple breasts. As a rule, only the mammary gland tissue is present in the absence of a nipple. These are most commonly found in the armpit and groin area.
- The following is a malformation of the nipples
- Athelie describes the extremely rare absence of nipples.
- Polythelia refers to multiple nipples. It is the most common breast malformation and occurs in around 3% of women. The nipples are usually found in the armpit area or under the breast.
- Slip warts, inverted warts – flat warts
- Nipple hyperplasia – nipples that are too large
- The funnel chest and chicken breast belong to the malformations of the ribcageand sternum!
